Hackers attack Whattpad platform

Cybercriminals managed to enter the publishing platform for writers and readers, thereby exposing the data of more than 271 million users

The text publishing platform Wattpad has been the victim of a cyber attack that has affected more than 271 million users, whose data has appeared on the black market.

Wattpad is a social platform where readers and writers from all over the world gather. According to web data, it connects 80 million people who spend 23 billion minutes a month discovering original stories.

Cybersecurity company Cyble detected in early July a security breach in Wattpad, and the sale of a file with the data obtained in exchange for 10 bitcoins (about $ 100,000).

Cyble researchers later found the file with 120GB of data on one of the hacking forums, shared for free, as they explain in a post on their official blog.

As he shared, it is a file with information from more than 271 million users, stemming from an attack suffered by the platform in June, which has exposed full names, dates of birth and contact numbers, among other details.
