Finland will officially be a member of NATO

The decision was announced this Monday, at a press conference, by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg

The Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, through a press conference reported this Monday that Finland was admitted to the military alliance and that its accession will be made official this Tuesday, in a ceremony in which the presence of the foreign ministers from the countries that make up said coalition.

The breakthrough comes after Turkey’s parliament ratified Finland’s accession protocol to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) last week.

Turkey was the last of the 30 members of the military bloc to ratify Finland’s accession. Hungary passed a similar bill earlier this week, clearing the way for Helsinki to join the alliance.

“Tomorrow we will welcome Finland as the thirty-first member of NATO, making Finland and our Alliance stronger,” Stoltenberg announced.
