FedEx launches blockchain project for distribution of medicines

Through its Institute of Technology, the company seeks to help in the distribution of medicines to cancer patients

The FedEx Institute of Technology established a strategic alliance with the pharmaceutical services company Good Shepherd Pharmacy, whose main objective is to optimize the distribution of medicines to cancer patients through the development of an infrastructure with blockchain technology.

With this initiative, the company seeks to reach people with restricted economic means or difficulties to obtain medicines for this terrible disease. The blockchain project called Remedi (REclaiming MEDicine) will allow this distribution safely and efficiently.

The FedEx Institute of Technology has been working since early 2018 in conjunction with the University of Memphis to promote research in the area of emerging technologies. In addition, they seek to contribute to the reduction in the losses that each year are quantified by drugs that are not distributed or not used.

Fred Smith, CEO of the company, said that blockchain technology will transform the current distribution systems in the world. Therefore, in February of this year, FedEx partnered with Blockchain in Transport Alliance (BiTA).

Through an event in which they hope to bring together experts in blockchain technology and businesses based on these platforms, they seek to implement the Remedi project and thus bring cancer patients the medicines they require for the treatment of this disease.
