Facebook launches new function with avatars

Users will be able to create a digital version of themselves to express emotions in comments, Stories and Messenger

Facebook has launched in the United States the new function of personalized avatars, a virtual “alter ego” of users that they can use to express emotions in the comments of their eponymous social network, in the Stories and in Messenger chat.

The avatars of Facebook come at a time when, due to the pandemic, most interactions between people occur online and it is more important to be able to express themselves, as Fidji Simo, head of the Facebook application, has assured through his personal account.

The avatars are a variant of the “stickers” announced by the company in 2019, which allows users to express themselves by creating a personal digital version that can be customized to make the conversation more representative.

These virtual “alter egos” can already be used for various functions on the platform, including Facebook comments, ephemeral content Stories and Messenger, and they will soon be used in background posts as well.

Creating an avatar is possible from the “stickers” screen from Facebook or Messenger, where the option Create your avatar appears. This feature is currently available in the United States.
