The Facebook company banned the profiles of the Taliban and those who support or praise them on the social network, as well as on the WhatsApp messaging application and on Instagram, according to a statement.
The company based its decision on its policy regarding dangerous organizations, which will allow them to block profiles run by the Taliban or who speak on their behalf.
“The Taliban are a terrorist organization sanctioned under the law of the United States,” detailed Facebook. However, they are not officially designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the United States.
The company noted that it employs a “group of experts in Afghanistan, whose native language is Pashtun or Dari Persian, who have knowledge of the local context.” Their task is to remove the prohibited material.
