According to the central bank, this economic growth was bolstered by “sectors such as financial services, construction, free zone manufacturing, and the hotel, bar, and restaurant market.”

Other factors that also contributed to the Central American country’s economy included education, “transport and storage, professional services, agriculture, and energy and water.” Mining, however, contracted by 15.9 % due to a decrease in gold and silver extraction volumes.

Regarding the year-on-year growth of financial activities, insurance, and related activities in July, the regulatory body indicated that it was due to the “8 % expansion of credit directed to the private sector and the increase in fees charged by financial institutions.”

“This result reflects greater dynamism in most economic activities, which offset the contractions recorded in oil and mining, as well as in agriculture, livestock, forestry, and fishing,” the BCE stated in a press release.

The services sector is the main contributor to the monthly growth indicator, with a year-on-year expansion of 2.6 % and a contribution of 1.2 percentage points. This is directly related to the increase in electricity generation and greater lending activity in the financial system.

The trade sector grew by 4.0 % compared to the same period in 2025 and contributed 0.6 percentage points to the indicator’s growth. Manufacturing saw growth of 4.2 %, and construction grew by 3.9 %.

Contraction in other sectors

In the oil and mining sector, the report revealed a contraction of 3.4 %, largely due to a reduction in domestic crude oil production and the volume of mining exports.

This is compounded by a 1.5 % reduction in areas such as agriculture, livestock, forestry, and fishing, “in a context of lower export volumes of cocoa, bananas, and fisheries and aquaculture products, according to data from the Central Bank of Ecuador.”

M.Pino

The Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) announced that the strategic alliance with IDB Invest, the private sector arm of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Group, will help “boost the economy, expand access to financing, strengthen productive sectors with growth potential, and contribute to job creation.”

The ministry explained that the funds would be allocated directly to private companies and projects “or channeled through financial institutions to expand access to credit for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).”

In addition to financing, technical assistance is expected for initiatives in the renewable energy, energy efficiency, electric mobility, and resilient infrastructure sectors.

It is important to note that in the first half of 2026, IDB Invest committed approximately $200 million in new operations in Panama and plans to increase that amount as new eligible projects are identified and approved.

The projection is based on the growth, although uneven, of other sectors, such as “fishing, agriculture, mining and construction, whose progress will stand out in the last quarter of the year.”

The minister has underlined the confidence of the authorities towards the positive performance of the national economy as a whole for 2025 and noted that in 2024 business expectations changed for the better. “Before, the investment rate was negative and this 2024 it would grow 2 %.”

“For next year we think it will increase by more than 5 %, that is, about US$ 50,000 million of private investment,” he said.

According to the CEO, the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the idea of the digital economy as a fundamental part of the global economy. An example of this is that Europe is digitizing the energy agreement and other agreements.

Marco also explained that tourists could interact in Barcelona with some blockchain projects “focused on personal care and some others based on public transport”.

Barcelona will be converted into a digital center

The General Director of Innovation and Digital Economy explained that the local government aspires to turn the city of Barcelona into a digital center and for this it is offering different programs to university students, as well as training plans to train human talent.

“We have very solid policies to generate talent that comes from the university, but we are also training a lot with programs such as training plans and other activities because we need different profiles,” he said.

He further explained that the government administration tries to “achieve the combination of both, that is, cultivate new talents and attract more companies with a pleasant work environment.”

As will be remembered, in 2014 Marco assumed the position of director of the SmartCatalonia Government Strategy, responsible for monitoring the initiative that would make “Catalonia a prominent Smart Country throughout the world” but with the appearance of technology blockchain and the metaverse is working to “create a fully digital economy inspired by the physical world.”

The financial entity highlights that the country’s slowdown this year will be marked by the “fading of the investment drive of 2021 and factors such as the tightening of fiscal and monetary policy, which will affect the entire region.“

For its part, the International Monetary Fund projected, in its update published at the end of March, a growth of 5.75 % for 2022, compared to the 4.5 % estimated in its first version in January of this year.

The IMF report indicates: “Colombia’s economic recovery in 2021 was one of the most dynamic in the region. After a strong economic rebound last year, Colombia’s economic momentum is expected to continue in 2022. Growth this year is expected to be above potential by around 5¾ %, driven by strong household consumption and the continuous recovery of investment and exports.”

Recovery of key sectors for the economy

In 2021, Colombia registered a record boom of 10.6% in its economy, but according to the projections made by the Banco de la República and other estimates made by public and private entities, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country could grow between 4 % and 6 % in 2022.

The Colombian Ministry of Finance foresees in its Financial Plan for 2022 a growth of 5 % for this year, while the Banco de la República forecasts a growth of 4.3 % for 2022.

As will be remembered, the Covid-19 pandemic strongly impacted the Colombian economy, which experienced a 7 % drop, according to data provided by DANE. However, in 2021 the recovery was remarkable and the “GDP growth was 10.6 %, the highest since 1975.”

Within the economic sectors that registered an upturn in their growth, the manufacturing industry stands out, which went from a fall of 9.8 % in 2020 to a growth of 16.4 % in 2021.

The construction sector was also positively impacted and managed to increase by 5.7 % in 2021 from a drop of 26.8 % in 2020. These data reveal those key niches in the Colombian market that have managed to recover from the economic contraction and has become a positive figure for the prosperity of the country.

Bancamiga Banco Universal joins the purpose of beautifying public spaces, by participating in the Bulevar Sucre project, which the Mayor’s Office of El Hatillo is carrying out hand in hand with the Fondo de Valores Inmobiliarios and the private company.

The initiative seeks to promote the town and the municipality as a tourist destination. For this, the Centro Comercial Paseo El Hatillo will be integrated with Plaza Sucre and the town in general, improving urban planning based on Hatillans and visitors, which will undoubtedly promote the boom in commerce and the local economy. The architectural proposal combines more green areas, pedestrian routes and converts the parking lot of the shopping center into the main parking lot for Hatillans and visitors.

During the afternoon of this Monday, the mayor of El Hatillo, Elías Sayegh, and the CEO of the Fondo de Valores Inmobiliarios, Horacio Velutini, presented the project to the community, signed an agreement and gave the start of the work, in an event that was attended by the executive president of Bancamiga, Ariel José Martínez.

Tourist jewel for all of Caracas and recognition of the technological innovation of Bancamiga

“El Hatillo will be a tourist jewel for all of Caracas. We are starting this project in public-private partnership to turn the place into a first world space. There will be more than 3,000 meters for the enjoyment of citizens, a space for coexistence and enjoyment. The Real Estate Securities Fund, Bancamiga, Pago Directo and the Mayor’s Office of El Hatillo have rowed in the same direction, with common goals. When this is done, capacities are enhanced and everything goes well”, said Sayegh.

For his part, Velutini pointed out that the project shows the union between the town, the municipality, the shopping center, the merchants or entrepreneurs and the parking lot, to integrate in such a way that people can enjoy themselves, especially because “in El Hatillo we have very cool alliances such as Pago Directo and Bancamiga, which bring with them technology, modernity and the new vibes that are coming and are being experienced in Venezuela.”

“We expect construction work to be completed by the end of August. 98 % of the pipeline has already been completed. The remaining 2 % corresponds to one of the two branches. The other one is fully built,” Warnig explained.

The executive said the goal is for the gas pipeline to be operational “before the end of the year.” At the same time, he dismissed information that suggested that there are problems with the certification of works required by the authorities in charge of granting licenses.

“In the end, we will have a gas pipeline that meets all the requirements in terms of international industrial standards and licenses,” he stressed.

Referring to Ukraine’s future role as a transit country for Russian natural gas, Warnig said he had not the slightest doubt that the passage through that country “will continue to be a fundamental part of the transport of gas from Russia to Europe after 2024.“

At the end of 2024 current transit agreement between Russia and Ukraine expires. “I suppose this has already been raised with Russia in the talks with the German government”, Warnig added.

The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline runs from Viborg in Russia across the Baltic Sea to Lubmin near Greifswald in the German state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. After commissioning, it will transport 55 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year from Russia to Germany.

The project is controversial, as it has been criticized by various countries in the region, such as Poland and Ukraine. The US government also condemns it for considering that with him Europe will depend excessively on Russia for its energy supply.
