E3 promises to return in 2023 with a hybrid format

The E3 video game fair indicated that for next year it hopes to recover the celebration of this event

The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) confirmed its intention to recover the celebration of the E3 video game fair next year, with an event that will combine both physical and digital presence.

E3 has been considered for years the main event of the year for the video game sector, the stage where the main actors, development studios and publishing companies, showed the novelties that would hit the market in the following months and the projects they were working on .

The organization has already canceled the 2020 edition due to the coronavirus pandemic, and in 2021 it opted for an exclusively virtual format. This year, however, it was completely canceled, although from ESA they assured in April that it will return next year.

“We are excited to return in 2023, with both a digital and in-person event“, the organization’s president and CEO, Stan Pierre-Louis, told The Washington Post.

Pierre-Louis does not deny the role of digital events in the promotion of companies, but believes that “there is a space for a physical show” just as “it is important to have digital reach”. “Combining those two, I think there’s a critical element of what we think E3 can provide,” he concludes.

Despite the lack of E3 this year, Microsoft and Capcom announced the celebration of two events on the dates that the video game fair usually takes place.
