Criptoplace aims to create crypto island in Brazil

The project seeks that the businesses of the island of Gigóia, in Rio de Janeiro, accept Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as a common means of payment

Brazil is one of the Latin American countries most open to the adoption of cryptocurrencies in the local economic system. The most recent project comes from the hand of Thiago Guimarães, founder of the Brazilian exchange Criptoplace, and Ana Élle, in association with PundiX, to implement the payment with bitcoin in the stores of the island of Gigóia.

The peer-to-peer cryptographic exchange platform has the ambitious project of converting the island, of about three thousand inhabitants, into a bitcoin paradise. Guimarães has indicated that the neighbors are very enthusiastic about the idea, and added: “Since I launched Criptoplace I have always thought that anyone have access and buy or sell cryptocurrencies without difficulty, something as easy as going to the bakery and buying a coffee.”

To achieve their purpose they have partnered with  PundiX, based on blockchain technology and solutions with diverse applications and their point of sale device of the block chain. This company launched in 2018 its decentralized smartphone called XPhone, “which allows user to make calls without the need of telephone operators.

In any case, the current project is based on its PoS device, which is essential for the commercial premises of the island to adopt cryptocurrencies in their transactions. In this regard, Guimarães said: “PundiX has a machine like credit and debit cards, but accepts cryptocurrencies. The machine allows payments with bitcoin, binance coin, ethereum and the currency of Pundi X. In addition, it also has its own card.”

The idea is to facilitate the payment of settlers in this island near Rio de Janeiro, in addition to achieving a massive adoption of cryptographic currencies as a means of payment.
