Canada announces retiree aid plan

The Canadian government assured that it plans to have 2.5 billion Canadian dollars to support 6.7 million pensioners in its country

Canadian authorities announced that they will launch a $ 2.5 billion aid plan for some 6.7 million Canadian retirees and pensioners in the midst of the coronavirus crisis.

The Government explained that those who meet the requirements to receive the aid could receive between 200 and 500 Canadian dollars, as the case may be.

Currently, retirees and pensioners are currently facing payments for the delivery of food or medicine, as well as transportation services that could generally be saved.

The agreement by which the border between the United States and Canada is currently closed to all “non-essential” traffic or commerce expires on May 21, which is why the Deputy Prime Minister, Chrystia Freeland, stressed that the Government is debating the situation with Washington.

Freeland, who stressed that the authorities were “cautious” in allowing displacement at the international level, said that although the measures are not lifted, an increase in traffic is expected on both sides of the border.
