Within the framework of the first anniversary of the reopening of the border between Venezuela and Colombia, the Development Bank of Latin America-CAF announced its determined support to strengthen the commercial relationship between both nations. The commitment materialized during a macro business conference in Caracas on September 27.

The executive president of CAF, Sergio Díaz-Granados, highlighted the multilateral institution’s willingness to collaborate with banks, the private sector and the authorities of Venezuela and Colombia in the search for mechanisms that promote trade, guaranteeing security in transactions. financial. Díaz-Granados stated that CAF has explored various options to achieve this objective.

During the macro-round installation event, broadcast by the state channel VTV, the bank’s interest in supporting the strengthening of tourism as an engine to energize the bilateral relationship was also highlighted. It was emphasized that the essence of CAF is to promote regional integration, serving as a vehicle for unity, convergence, conversation and resolution of challenges that may arise along the way.

Delcy Rodríguez, executive vice president of Venezuela, highlighted the obligation of both nations to establish a strategic relationship with industrial complementarity and joint investment plans. In this context, Rodríguez affirmed that CAF will play a vital role in this cooperation.

On September 27, representatives of Venezuela and Colombia signed a memorandum of understanding between the Venezuelan Country Brand Institute and the Colombian Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism. According to official figures from the Andean country, bilateral trade between January and July of this year reached 435.6 million dollars, registering a growth of 13.7 % compared to the same period in 2022, when it amounted to 383 million dollars.
