Bolsonaro wants to resume economic activity

The Brazilian president made a call this Friday to reactivate the sector and also reopen the borders

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro called on Friday to revive economic activity and reopen borders despite the coronavirus pandemic.

Bolsonaro, who was present at the inauguration of Nelson Teich for the Ministry of health, called for resuming economic activity to contain the side effects of the health emergency.

In its latest forecasts, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) predicts that the Brazilian GDP will contract 5.3%.

“This fight to start opening trade is a risk that I run, because if the situation worsens, it will fall on me,” said the president, who also indicated that it is only necessary for the elderly and people with chronic diseases to remain at home.

The president also raised the possibility of reversing the closure of land borders, in force since mid-March. “Why close the border with Paraguay if it is a dry border that we cannot control. The same is true for Uruguay”.
