AST & Science will seek to bring broadband to Latin America

This company, together with New Providence Acquisition Corp. announced a project to integrate a single network to provide this type of connectivity.

The merger between the US companies AST & Science and New Providence Acquisition Corp. will allow Latin America and Mexico to have a better broadband connection.

The merger of these companies, in addition to now having an estimated value of 1,400 million dollars, will give rise to a project that will seek to create a unique network for the aforementioned region.

“This project represents a great step forward in equal access to the Internet between regions, which will improve people’s lives since it would allow more users to connect to world flows of information, communication and services,” explained Abel Avellan, President and CEO of AST SpaceMobile.

They also assured that this new platform will allow “millions of people in Latin America to access high-speed services, in areas where this was not seen before.”

The project constitutes a challenge for Latin America, where according to the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), 33 % of its inhabitants lack an Internet connection, at a time when connectivity is key, even more so with the distance education and teleworking to prevent the spread of COVID-19 disease.
