Argentina towards the automotive energy transition

With the launch of a bill to boost the production of electric vehicles, Argentina advances in new technological trends

Argentina recently presented to the advisory council of the automotive chain the bill for the Promotion of Production of Electric and Hybrid Vehicles. Those responsible for this initiative are the Secretary for Industry and Productive Development, José Ignacio de Mendiguren, and the Secretary for Strategic Affairs of the Presidency, Mercedes Marcó del Pont.

This is a new step for the South American country to delve into the development of new sustainable technologies applied in the national automotive industry, with the support of the Departments of Strategic Affairs, Energy and Transportation.

The bill establishes “improvements in the current regulation, under five axes: benefits for the production and export of electric vehicles, incentives for the production of electrical parts and special equipment, benefits for the production of electric personal mobility vehicles, incentives for the professional training and progress in retrofit regulation (conversion of internal combustion vehicles to electric)”, according to a statement from Industry and Productive Development.

The Secretary for Strategic Affairs of the Presidency, Mercedes Marcó del Pont, stressed that the new project seeks to strengthen a regulatory framework for national production, as well as support for local suppliers in the auto parts and equipment sectors.

She also assured that the “national production of hybrid and electric vehicles” is a priority for the State, in addition to being a “shared objective” with the private sector and unions.
