Vietnam prepares regulations for cryptocurrencies

The deputy prime minister sent the indication to different ministries to work together in the development of a legal framework

Recent information shows that Vietnam is working on the development of a legal framework dedicated to ensuring the good coexistence of cryptocurrencies with citizens.

The nation’s Deputy Prime Minister, Le Minh Khai, sent direct instructions to the Ministries of Finance, Justice, and Information and Communications to work together with the State Bank of Vietnam to work on this framework.

Minh Khai specifically entrusted the Ministry of Finance with the primary responsibility for reaching agreement with other regulators and the central bank to identify specific laws that need to be amended, supplemented and enacted, as well as recommending a specific time frame for implementation.

Everything related to this law will be worked according to “Decision 1255”, which was issued in August 2017 and which contemplates the approval of a plan to create a series of laws for the management and handling of digital assets.

Some proposals to regulate cryptocurrencies were put forward in November 2018, but no decision was made. As we said, there was no concerted decision and important sectors were betting on the ban.
