EU gives the green light to the new cybersecurity center

The new body will work in coordination with the European Network and Information Security Agency

The Twenty-seven have given the green light this Tuesday to the regulation to establish the new European Center for Cybersecurity of the EU that will be based in Bucharest.

The new body will work in coordination with the European Network and Information Security Agency, located in Greece. The EU thus wants to improve coordination in research and innovation in the field of cybersecurity.

Specifically, the center will serve to promote the security of the Internet and other networks and critical information systems by establishing a center that combines investments in research, technology and industrial development in cybersecurity.

“It will play a key role in helping to secure the digital infrastructure that many of us use every day for our work and leisure, as well as information systems and networks such as health, transportation, banking and financial markets systems,” said the Portuguese Secretary of State for the Presidency, Mariana Vieira da Silva.

Last December, the Romanian capital took over the headquarters of the new body against the candidacy of Brussels. The legislation on the new center will have to be adopted by the European Parliament at second reading before being published in the Official Journal of the EU.
