Future of the digital euro will be decided mid-year

Both the European Commission and the European Central Bank plan to give their final verdict in 2021

The European Commission and the European Central Bank joined forces to take into account all the details and problems that could arise from the implementation of the digital euro in the market.

According to the statement, both institutions want to have all the details tied and up to date, before the development process scheduled for mid-2021 begins.

The cooperation between the two entities is to review “jointly at the technical level a wide range of political, legal and technical issues that arise from a possible introduction of a digital euro.” Creating a digital currency is not an easy task, even less if it involves the 19 countries that currently use the euro as their currency.

The idea of the ECB is to be able to manage and clarify whether or not it is really worth carrying out the development of this currency. All the extra factors involved in the digitization process must be taken into account

The European Central Bank recently conducted a public survey to see what the interest and opinion of citizens is about a digital euro. They indicate that there is definitely a need and a demand for a digital euro. However, aspects such as privacy or security of the currency must be taken into account to prevent its hacking among other things.
