Corruption in Germany descended during 2018

As indicated by the Federal Office of Criminal Investigation (BKA), during that year they registered only 3,800 cases of embezzlement and abuse of power

The number of corruption cases registered in Germany decreased in 2018, according to data released today by the Federal Office of Criminal Investigation (BKA).

Last year, police accounted for about 3,800 cases, a fifth less than in 2017, says the “Corruption 2018” report presented today in Wiesbaden.

A total of 2,458 people were investigated on suspicion of corruption. In 2017, the figure was 2,939 people.

According to the report, the number of suspects who allegedly accepted gifts or money increased. That group grew by about 100 people to 1,534.

The BKA report focused mainly on public employees or mayors, who, as a consideration, accept gifts for certain assignments. The money allocated to the public sector came mainly from the construction and handcraft manufacturing sector.

According to the investigators, the damages caused by the bribes amount to 135 million dollars, a figure clearly below the average recorded in the past five years.
