In a recent update to its mobile app for Android, the social network X integrated the expected functionality of calling and video calling. Elon Musk, owner of the former Twitter, announced last summer his intention to transform X into an all-in-one app, and now embodies that vision by making these options accessible on Android devices.
The feature, initially launched in October for iOS users via the premium subscription, is now expanding to the Android platform with the latest update of the app. An X engineer confirmed that since last Thursday, Android users can enjoy voice and video calls through the ‘app’.
TechCrunch notes that while only subscribers can make calls, any user of the platform has the ability to receive and participate in calls.
The ambition to turn X into a comprehensive application is reinforced with the implementation of payments and the integration of artificial intelligence, planned for this year. These advances aim to improve the experience for both users and advertisers on the platform.
