WhatsApp will offer cryptocurrency transactions

The WhatsApp messaging platform joined the Novi wallet in a pilot plan to allow users in the United States to send and receive money in digital assets

This Wednesday, the pilot plan was announced in the United States to test the Novi wallet on the WhatsApp messaging platform. Stephane Kasriel, head of Meta’s cryptocurrency and fintech unit, Novi, indicated that the test is aimed at allowing some users in the country to “send and receive money without commissions and without the need to leave the application.”

Through a tweet, Kasriel noted: “There is a new way to test the Novi digital wallet. Starting today, a limited number of people in the US will be able to send and receive money using Novi on WhatsApp, making sending money to family and friends as easy as sending a message.”

Through screenshots, Davis Marcus, in charge of the fintech unit, showed the simplicity of the process for transactions, making it clear that users will have the possibility to trade with the stablecoin Pax Dollar (USDP), pegged to the US dollar.

Meta’s Novi wallet had already been tested in a pilot plan a few months ago among users in Guatemala and the United States, through an alliance with Paxos and Coinbase.

Currently, Meta’s cryptocurrency department is waiting for the response of users to decide the expansion of this alliance, the crypto wallet Novi.
