WhatsApp announces voice chats for large groups

Voice chats will begin to roll out in the coming weeks, as announced by Meta

WhatsApp announced voice chats, which will be available to large groups on the Meta messaging service in the coming weeks, as an alternative to group calls.

Voice chats will be rolled out globally in the coming weeks, starting with chats that have at least 33 members, that is, it is reserved for the moment for larger groups.

This type of chat is also protected with end-to-end encryption, which prevents a third party outside the group from accessing the content of the communication, as occurs with calls and personal messages.

Those responsible for this messaging service, owned by Meta, understand that there are some times when “people only need to talk to those chat members who are available, without losing the option to continue sending messages to those who are not.”

Voice chats are also presented as an alternative to group calls, since they ring for each member of the group. Instead, new voice chats start with a window that appears in the group and you just have to tap on it to join.

They also keep call controls integrated, displayed at the top of the chat, meaning you can quickly unmute, hang up, or send a message without having to leave the conversation.
