Venezuela formally requested its entry into the BRICS

The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, indicated this Monday that the country made the formal request to be a member of the BRICS

Venezuela made the formal request to be part of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), as announced this Monday by Nicolás Maduro, president of the South American nation.

They are waiting for the approval. However, Maduro indicated that they hope that the request will be taken into account and approved, sooner rather than later, “by the authorities of this global integration bloc.”

He stressed that “the BRICS is a driving force behind the emergence of the multipolar world, and he considered it satisfactory and hopeful that its expansion is being considered at this time to facilitate the balance of the new world that is being born, with new countries in the eventual BRISC+”.

Last May, Venezuela had already declared its desire to join the BRICS. Decision that was supported by Russia and China, founding members of this block, in 2009, to confront the “hegemony” of the dollar in the global commercial scenario.

Representatives of the ruling party consider that the eventual incorporation of Venezuela to the BRICS would open the doors to better investment conditions in strategic businesses, in addition to strengthening its economy.

As for the block, its expansion will be addressed at the next summit that will take place on August 22 and 24 in the South African city of Johannesburg.
