Venezuela announces a reform of the national electric system

According to an announcement by Venezuela's interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, the country is preparing to update the National Electric System Law, amidst statements regarding the rescue and modernization of the sector

Venezuela’s interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, announced last week new laws that will be incorporated into existing legislation, focused on the modernization and recovery of the national electric system.

In this regard, Rodríguez spoke of an update to the National Electric System Law, and “indicated that the new regulations include updating the legal framework of the electric system, as well as improvements in the processes of energy generation, transmission, and distribution, in addition to the incorporation of a Law for the Rational Use of Energy, with the objective of strengthening the efficiency and sustainability of the service.”

She highlighted the national government’s progress in this area and outlined the Executive’s strategic vision for energy, stating: “The Venezuela we envision requires growth and demands an electrical system in optimal condition to guarantee economic development and the well-being of Venezuelans.”

The acting president also referred to Venezuela’s energy potential, noting that the South American nation is an energy powerhouse.
