US to host Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum summit in 2023

Authorities from the United States confirmed this Thursday that the country will host the summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) in 2023 and have highlighted Washington's commitment to development to achieve "fair and open" trade

In a statement, the White House spokeswoman, Jen Psaki, has pointed out that the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in 2023 will be an opportunity to boost “American competitiveness” and “development”, in addition to “ensuring a free and open Indo-Pacific region.”

Thus, he pointed out that both the president, Joe Biden, and the vice president, Kamala Harris, have offered to host the summit next year “given the incentive to expand and deepen economic relations in the region.”

The priority is to serve as a strong and reliable partner for APEC economies and to identify ways to enhance economic opportunity, prosperity and growth. This has been pointed out by Psaki, who added that the American team will outline “our common objective and ideals, vital for our future.”

Secretary of State Antony Blinken is currently in the region to further strengthen key diplomatic relations and advance “shared priorities.” The United States is looking forward to working more closely with Thailand, which will host the summit this year, according to reports.
