US authorities were already investigating FTX
The cryptocurrency exchange was in the crosshairs of the US authorities for various reasons
According to recently published information, it was learned that the FTX cryptocurrency exchange was already being investigated by the United States (USA) authorities.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York had been pursuing certain FTX-related inquiries for several months. The investigation was carried out by Damian Williams, and the process in question was evaluating whether the exchange did not offer services to US residents through its main page.
One of the points on which the authority based itself to initiate the investigations was suspicious regarding “compliance with bank secrecy”, also indicating that the “authorities have required the law… financial institutions to take measures to prevent money laundering and the financing of terrorist acts.”
FTX was one of the most important exchanges in the sector, so its fall resulted in a severe blow to the cryptocurrency market and its main exponents.
Due to insolvency situations, embezzlement of funds belonging to clients led the company to declare bankruptcy and with it affect the digital asset market in a very drastic way.
