UN announces visit to Venezuela by special rapporteur

Alena Douhan's objective is to evaluate the negative impact that the different sanctions have left in the country

The United Nations (UN) announced the visit to Venezuela of the special rapporteur on the negative impact of unilateral coercive measures on the enjoyment of human rights in Venezuela.

“Following an invitation from the Government of Venezuela, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the negative impact of unilateral coercive measures on the enjoyment of human rights, Ms. Alena Douhan, will make an official visit to the country from February 1 to 12 of 2021.

The Special Rapporteur and her team will gather information and hold a series of meetings with government authorities, civil society organizations, the private sector and the opposition, ”the organization explained in a statement.

It also indicated that the report, which seeks “the views of all relevant stakeholders to inform the thematic and geographic focus of the visit and subsequent reports” will be presented in September 2021.
