Twitter under investigation in the US for data use

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) indicated that the social network has used personal information of its users to send advertising

The United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is currently investigating Twitter for the platform’s use of personal data to personalize advertising, something the company estimates may lead to penalties of between 150 and 250 million dollars.

In a complaint sent on July 28, the FTC alleges that the email and phone number, provided for security reasons by Twitter users, were used to carry out targeted advertisements between 2013 and 2019.

This advertising use, which is a violation of the FTC’s minutes, could lead to losses to the company of between 150 and 250 million dollars, according to estimates from Twitter itself collected by the FTC.

Although this matter “remains unresolved” and it is unknown when this complaint will be resolved or the final result, Twitter has reserved an accrual of $ 150 million to face possible sanctions.
