Twitter adds the tipping feature to the platform

The social network will now allow people to send tips to content creators for the English app

Twitter introduced its new Tip Jar feature, which allows people who use its platform to send tips directly to creators and is now available to all users of the Twitter phone app in English.

The tipping function of the social network had already been made known last month in leaks, and now the company confirmed in a statement the existence of this tool through a new button located in user profiles, next to the ‘follow’ button.

The Tip Jar button opens a list of paid services for users to choose their preferred tool to send a tip to a Twitter creator to help them and show their support.

From this Thursday, all users of the Twitter application in English for iOS and Android mobiles will be able to send tips through Tip Jar, although initially only a small number of creators will be able to enable the function in their profiles, which also include journalists, experts and charities.

Initially, the available payment services will be Bandcamp, Cash App, Patreon, PayPal and Venmo, and in none of them Twitter gets a commission from tips. In addition to the profiles, Android are also able to send payments from Spaces, live voice chat rooms.
