Venezuela is experiencing tense moments after several explosions occurred at various military targets early Saturday morning, January 3, and President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were captured.
According to local and international media, in a statement from the White House, US President Donald Trump confirmed an attack on the Mountain Barracks, the Port of La Guaira, La Carlota Airport, and Fort Tiuna, and the subsequent extraction of Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.
A State of External Disturbance was declared throughout the country, according to a message disseminated via Telegram by Foreign Minister Yván Gil, who stated: “The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela rejects, repudiates, and denounces before the international community the extremely serious military aggression perpetrated by the current government of the United States of America.”
For her part, Vice President Delcy Rodríguez “confirmed at 6:00 a.m. this Saturday, January 3, that Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores were captured by US forces” and demanded that the Trump administration provide proof of life for both of them.
Meanwhile, U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi announced early this morning that Maduro and his wife “have been indicted in the Southern District of New York on charges of narco-terrorism conspiracy, conspiracy to import cocaine, possession of machine guns and destructive devices, and conspiracy to possess machine guns and destructive devices against the United States.”
