Trump could finally face a political trial

A federal court will endorse the right of a commission of the House of Representatives to request the financial records of the US president, and bring it before the court

A federal court of appeals endorsed on Friday the right of a commission of the House of Representatives to request the financial records of the accounting firm that keeps the accounts of the president Donald Trump, who can still appeal this decision to a higher instance.

The Supervisory Commission of the US House of Representatives requested in April the documents that the Mazars company has accumulated during the last eight years related to Trump and other entities linked to the president, including its foundation and the real estate firm.

The commission chaired by democrat Elijah Cummings had justified his request on the need to investigate possible conflicts of interest, but Trump’s lawyers argued that everything is part of a political game and that there is no legitimate justification.

However, the court rejected Trump’s arguments in a speech approved by two votes. “The commission is authorized by both House rules and the Constitution and Mazars must comply with it,” said Judge David Tatel, according to The Wall Street Journal.
