TikTok will let users turn photos into videos

With the launch of a new tool called AI Alive, TikTok users will be able to turn still photos into videos directly from Stories

TikTok users will be able to turn still photos into videos from Stories thanks to a new artificial intelligence-powered feature called AI Alive.

The launch was announced on the platform’s official blog, where they indicate that it is only available in TikTok’s Story Camera.

Users will simply need to open Story Camera by clicking the “+” button in the Inbox or Profile section. They can then choose a photo from their Stories album and tap the AI Alive icon, located in the right-hand toolbar. A dialog box will appear with the phrase “Make this photo come to life,” providing instructions for the desired changes. Once the transformation is complete, the clip can be shared like any other Story on the platform, and the video will appear in the For You and Following feeds, as well as on the creator’s profile page.

With the new tool, users can capture the desired image and “transform it into a cinematic scene” with the desired features and add ambient sounds. “It will also be possible to animate a group selfie, highlighting the gestures and expressions of the participants.”

According to the platform, AI Alive “uses intelligent editing tools that allow anyone, regardless of experience, to convert still images into short, engaging videos, enriched with movement, atmospheric effects, and creative elements.”

TikTok clarified that videos created with AI Alive will include a visible label indicating their origin. They will also be accompanied by C2PA metadata, “a technology that allows content created with artificial intelligence to be identified, even if it is downloaded or shared outside of TikTok.”
