Venezuela will establish an insulin production plant in the country after signing an agreement with the Russian pharmaceutical company Gropharma.

This was announced by Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro during his television program “Con Maduro +.” The president noted that the respective negotiations were held during his recent official visit to Russia, which seeks to guarantee treatment for people with diabetes.

“Insulin will be produced in Venezuela, which is why we signed the agreement with a St. Petersburg company to produce insulin in Venezuela; in an alliance with a powerful, technologically advanced pharmaceutical company,” Maduro stated.

According to the head of state, this alliance with the Russian company Geropharma is part of the measures to “consolidate a strategic alliance for pharmaceutical manufacturing in the country,” reduce dependence on imports, and boost the pharmaceutical sector with foreign investment.
