An unopened copy of the classic video game Super Mario Bros. was sold over the weekend for a price of $ 2 million, breaking the record for the highest price paid for a video game.
An anonymous buyer has acquired the copy of Super Mario Bros., a classic title originally released in 1985 for Nintendo’s NES console, through the Rally collectors platform, as reported by the media.
The price of $ 2 million is the highest price that has been paid for a video game auctioned or sold so far, beating the previous record set for a copy of Super Mario 64 sold in July for $ 1.56 million.
Previously, a rare unit of Super Mario Bros. had already been auctioned for a record price of $ 660,000 in an auction held in April, although this was again surpassed by a copy of The Legend of Zelda sold in July for $ 870,000.
