Spotify will launch subscription for podcasts

The entertainment platform announced that it is working on the development of this model, which would not leave any commission to the application

The streaming audio platform Spotify is currently working on the development of paid subscriptions for podcasts, with which users can pay directly to the creators, and for which the company will not get a commission.

This was assured by sources familiar with the matter, who say that Spotify’s new podcast subscription system will be announced next week on the service.

This novelty comes just days after Apple announced its intention to introduce paid subscriptions to its Apple Podcasts service in 170 regions in May, with prices that creators can choose and a commission between 15 and 30 %.

In contrast, the alternative that Spotify plans to introduce next week does not contemplate any commission for the platform, nor will it require creators to pay to use the service. They can also choose the subscription price they want.

The new subscription service will be available in its app for both Android and iOS, and in the case of Apple’s system, the Swedish platform plans to use an external payment system through a website, to avoid getting a commission about payments.
