Skype to shut down after 20 years

The Skype Internet phone and video calling service will stop working after two decades on May 5

Skype will stop working on May 5, Microsoft recently announced. The service has been active for 20 years.

According to sources from the parent company, the login information will be available to users of the phone and video calling platform in the free level of Microsoft Teams in the “coming days”.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, Skype gained customers, which has continued until now, due to the quarantine that led people to confinement and turned the service into the contact tool between families.

However, it has lost popularity and use in recent years due to the market consolidation of competition from Zoom, Google Meet and Cisco WebEx, as well as, of course, Apple’s FaceTime and Meta’s WhatsApp.
