The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, recently held a meeting with diplomats from various Latin American and Caribbean countries, in which he advocated strengthening political dialogue and cooperation between Moscow and the region.

The meeting took place on the eve of the Russian presidential elections, which begin today, March 15, and end on Sunday, the 17th.

Lavrov emphasized Moscow’s interest in “continuing to develop bilateral and multilateral political dialogue and increasing economic-trade and investment cooperation with Latin America and the Caribbean.”

The representative of the Russian government called for cooperation between the regions to also be maintained in matters of culture, education and humanitarian relations, without conflicts of ideologies, where “national interests, equal rights and benefit are taken into mutual consideration.”

The meeting served to exchange points of view on a variety of issues of interest to the parties, as well as the international panorama. “Various aspects of the changes in world order that are taking place and that lead to the strengthening of its multipolar structure were addressed, within which the Latin American region plays an important role,” according to the Russian diplomat.
