Russia offers personalized skin cancer vaccine to the population
Russian citizens will be able to receive the personalized skin cancer vaccine NeoOncovac free of charge for cases of inoperable or metastatic melanoma
Russia will offer the personalized skin cancer vaccine NeoOncovac free of charge, through the mandatory health insurance system, to patients with inoperable or metastatic melanoma.
The vaccine was developed by the Gamaleya Center and the Blokhin National Research Center for Oncology, and its manufacture is handled by the National Research Center for Radiology.
The director of the Gamaleya Center, Dr. Denis Logunov, confirmed on Tuesday that this vaccine can be obtained through health insurance and that it has already been administered to two patients this year.
Russia stands out in medical advancements compared to other countries worldwide. Currently, it maintains three priority approaches:
- Personalized mRNA vaccines: Created from the genetic analysis of your own tumor. An example is the NeoOncovac vaccine.
- Peptide vaccines: Based on synthetic analogs of tumor antigens, which stimulate the immune system to attack cancer cells. An example is Oncopept, for the treatment of colorectal cancer.
- Oncolytic virus-based vaccines: These use modified viruses that selectively infect and destroy malignant cells. An example is EnteroMix.
