President of China calls for the Internet to reach all countries

The president of the Asian nation, Xi Jinping, called this Wednesday, at the opening of the Wuzhen Summit of the 2023 World Internet Conference (WCC), so that the Internet benefits more people in all countries

During the opening of the Wuzhen Summit of the 2023 World Internet Conference (WCC), Chinese President Xi Jinping called for more people in the world to have access to the Internet.

Since the second Summit, in 2015, the Chinese president has promoted a “vision of the joint construction of a community with a shared future in cyberspace.”

“The vision answers the questions of our times, related to resolving development deficits, addressing security challenges and strengthening mutual learning among civilizations,” Xi said.

During his speech, he stressed the need to deepen exchanges and practical cooperation that allow joint progress “towards a new stage in the construction of a community with a shared future in cyberspace.”

The democratization of access to public information services, as well as reducing the digital gap and applying new technologies remotely to improve the quality of life of people, are fundamental aspects of this vision.

In this sense, the Chinese president “asked to prioritize development so that the fruits of Internet development benefit more countries and people.”

Xi Jinping has insisted on the need for a more secure, peaceful and inclusive shared cyberspace, always respecting “cyber sovereignty”, avoiding “hegemony, confrontation of blocs and the arms race in cyberspace”.

The development of science poses challenges in terms of cybersecurity; Therefore, Xi has put on the table the need to protect user data and information, always based on ethics. China “is willing to work with all parties to implement the Global Initiative for Governance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and promote the safe development of AI.”
