Miami Mayor asks Trump to reinstate TPS for Venezuelans

The current instability in Venezuela is one of the main reasons that has prompted Miami Mayor Eileen Higgins to request the immediate reinstatement of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Venezuelan immigrants

The current instability in Venezuela is leading to a search for protection mechanisms for citizens, particularly migrants. In this regard, Miami Mayor Eileen Higgins asked President Donald Trump to immediately reinstate TPS for these citizens.

The Democratic politician made it clear that no one should be forced to return to a country that remains unsafe or where they could be in danger.

Higgins emphasized that Miami’s Venezuelan community — the largest in the country — has contributed significantly to the city, adding, “the elimination of TPS earlier this year was reckless and unjust.”

Higgins’s demand underscores the city’s solidarity with Venezuelan residents, who “have waited decades for a moment of hope,” and has been echoed by Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, who has spoken in favor of TPS for Venezuelans.
