Chat privacy is crucial for Meta, the parent company of the social network WhatsApp. To strengthen this aspect, the company introduced changes in the new update that block automatic media downloads and restrict exports and access to conversations.
The feature, called “Advanced Chat Privacy,” is more than just a new platform tweak and “responds to the growing demand from users for greater control over their digital privacy in the apps they use every day.”
The new features join existing ones, such as end-to-end encryption and scheduled disappearance of messages, giving users greater control over the use of their personal data.
Today, there are multiple cyber threats, and social media users have become more aware of the importance of protecting their information, demanding new security mechanisms from service providers.
The measure implemented by WhatsApp reinforces “an industry-wide trend toward privacy as a key element in building long-term trust and loyalty.”
