Italian government will fund blockchain technology projects

The Italian government will grant 46 million dollars to finance projects related to IoT, AI and blockchain technology for specific sectors

The Ministry of Economic Development of the Italian government announced the granting of 46 million dollars to finance organizations that develop projects related to artificial intelligence, the Internet of things and blockchain technology in specific sectors such as health, industry and manufacturing, tourism, environment and the aerospace sector.

Giancarlo Giorgetti, Minister of Economic Development, highlighted that as of September, public or private research firms and companies will be able to request government funding for the development of their IoT, AI and Blockchain technology projects.

The initial budget of the fund will be 45 million euros, equivalent to 46 million dollars, “for expenses and costs of 500 thousand to 2 million euros as part of the Italian government’s objectives for investments in technology, research and innovation.”

Modernizing production sectors

In December 2021, the government decreed government financing through a decree establishing the criteria for using the fund and in June 2022 it disseminated the terms and conditions for submitting applications.

Giorgetti pointed out: “We support companies’ investments in cutting-edge technologies with the aim of promoting the modernization of production systems through increasingly interconnected, efficient, safe and fast management models”

According to the minister, the objective of competitiveness requires the manufacturing industry to constantly innovate and use the potential of new technologies.
