The Government of Ecuador announced that it will grant a migration amnesty to Venezuelan applicants. In this sense, it will establish a new regularization system for these citizens and their families in the country, whose immigration permanence certificate has expired or who do not have a special visa.

Spokespersons for the Ecuadorian Executive indicated that through a decree signed by President Daniel Noboa, “immigration amnesty” and an “extraordinary regularization process will be granted for people of Venezuelan nationality in a situation of human mobility and their family group.”

Applicants must have complied with the “Immigration Permanence Registration process activated in June 2022, have the certificate even if it has expired and have not obtained the Exceptional Temporary Residence Visa (Virte II), issued in a previous legalization process. of Venezuelan migrants.”

The Ministry of the Interior of the South American country will be in charge of renewing the certificates and residence authorizations for Venezuelan applicants to give them access to the renewed Virte II visa.

The regularization process will last 8 months, according to the decree. On the other hand, the application form for registration will be free; However, Venezuelan migrants must pay the value of the visa and the citizenship card (identity card) that will be issued by the respective entity.

In addition, the Ministry of Economic and Social Inclusion (MIES) will provide support in these regularization procedures and will reinforce “the immigration amnesty for Venezuelan children and adolescents who are alone, unaccompanied or separated.”

Ecuadorian institutions will accept identity documents or passports from applicants that have expired up to five years. They have highlighted that the Ministry of the Interior and the Police Intelligence Directorate must evaluate the “risk profile or threat to public security of the applicants.”

On June 28, the Venezuela Association in Ecuador requested from President Noboa a new regularization process for Venezuelans who have not been able to access that plan in the last two years. The association declared: “We Venezuelans intend to include ourselves in the development of this country, and it is precisely the migratory irregularity that has prevented us from having access to fundamental rights such as identity, health, education, work, social security. , free contracting, inclusion in the financial system, among others.”
