Facebook works on the creation of spider robots

Robotics and artificial intelligence are new allies of the social network Facebook, which works on ambitious futuristic projects

A group of professionals in the areas of engineering, robotics, computing, artificial intelligence and design join Facebook to create their first robots. It is “spiders” intended for repetitive tasks.

The social network is inserted with this step in the development of devices for security, performing simple tasks, with a view to more complex missions in the future.

With respect to these robots there has been much speculation. Behind the scenes there has been much talk of artificial intelligence and robotics, which are the basic disciplines of these developments in the world. Through his official blog, Facebook reveals what they have achieved in their laboratory.

The primary objective of the FAIR team is to achieve high levels of development and efficiency after contact tests, response capacity, motivation and order tracking.

On the subject, three recent articles by the specialists stand out. The first details the process by which a spider robot learned by itself to perform repetitive tasks by trial and error. Next, there is the theme that includes the development of artificial “curiosity” to learn faster and fulfill assigned tasks in less time. And the third article addresses “the use of the sense of artificial touch so that robots can perform with greater precision and delicacy common tasks.”

The applications that Facebook will make of these robots are still unknown. The truth is that his team of researchers continue working in the FAIR to refine the skills of their creations.
