In the words of Christine Lagarde, President of the ECB, “after 20 years, it is time to update the appearance of our banknotes so that Europeans of all ages and backgrounds can identify with them.”

She also expressed that the euro banknotes will remain on the market for a long time.” She stressed that the banknotes “are here to stay” considering it a tangible symbol and that it represents the union in Europe, especially in times of crisis.

European Central Bank appoints advisory group

European citizens will participate in the redesign process of the new banknotes, which is why the European Central Bank appointed an advisory group made up of a specialist from each country in the area, who will be responsible for consulting people on possible issues for the bills.

Citizens will express their opinion through the discussion groups that will be created as one of the first steps in the redesign process. The group will address the different proposals or topics for future bills.

Then, the advisory group will present the list to the Governing Council of the ECB, which once the topics have been selected will call a design competition for the new banknotes and the public will be summoned again. The Governing Council will be the one to adopt the final decision and issue the order to produce and print the euro banknotes and to establish the date of their issue.

Lightning Network Daemon (LND), launched its latest version incorporating reusable payment invoices.

Since its creation, the platform only issued a single payment, but with this new version, customers will be able to “receive multiple payments by generating an invoice for multipath atomic payments (AMP).

When they announced version 0.13 beta, the testing process to verify the support of this payment method began, but it was until yesterday, November 18, with the launch of version 0.14 beta that AMP invoices were announced for all the clients.

The new update also incorporated advances in aspects related to scalability and security, although private users will still not be able to enjoy the benefits of this update because it is only applying to Lightning nodes.”

More security and scalability

The LND has also included in this version a remote signature system, generating a layer of privacy in the software. Additionally, the times for sending payments have been optimized, improving speeds up to 10 times with the new Pathfinding protocol. However, as a consequence of the amount of RAM that characterizes the version, those “nodes with little computing power will not be able to execute it at all, using only a small instance of it.”

This version of LND contains a hybrid version format that facilitates faster Internet connections, while maintaining privacy. It also brings batching of payment channels. That is, customers have the possibility of carrying out a transaction and sending it to different addresses, paying only for one transaction.

Colombia becomes the first Latin American country to start the pilot test of issuance of stock bonds with the use of blockchain technology, throughout the process of issuance, registration and negotiation, which implies an important leap by the SFC before its Latin American peers .

The information was provided by the institution through a statement, where it also explained: “that the issuance of this real bond does not involve all the traditional infrastructure that uses a centralized deposit of securities, but it will have all the phases of an issuance of securities. traditional bonds. That is to say: the inscription of the instrument in the National Registry of Securities and Issuers (RNVE), issuance, placement, registration of payments, negotiation and fulfillment of the operation.”

This test is intended to demonstrate the efficiency of blockchain technology at times where interoperability, immutability and effectiveness are essential in institutions. Therefore, it is expected to verify and verify if the planned times are the most optimal for each and every one of the phases of the process.

Financial entities will participate in the pilot test are: Davivienda banks, the IDB Group and Banco de la República. Davivienda will be responsible for issuing the trial bond, the IDB will be in charge of acting as an investor, while the Banco de la República will be the “observer who will oversee that the process is completed according to the former

The most important challenge of this pilot test is related to the updating of the stock exchange regulations and policies that govern the entire process, because they are directed, for the most part, to an administrative process, preferably written, for which the legal instruments must be developed and adapt to new technology.
