The Van Gogh Museum is celebrating its 50th anniversary and will offer visitors until January 7, 2024 an eye-catching collection in collaboration with the Pokemon franchise.

Van Gogh’s work will share spaces with the well-known yellow character. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn details about the life and work of the Dutch painter, while coming into contact with Pokemon.

This was announced this September 28, during the opening of the exhibition by the general director of the museum, Emilie Gordenker.

“The Van Gogh Museum and The Pokemon Company International have leveraged their years as experts in educational formats to create a truly special experience for children, their caregivers, and anyone who visits the Van Gogh Museum,” said Gordenker.

Regarding the collection, it is made up of “six paintings that reinterpret some of the painter’s classics, placing various Pokemon as protagonists. For example, in one of them Pikachu appears in a work based on Self-Portrait with a Gray Felt Hat (1887), while in another a Snorlax appears relaxing in a version of The Bedroom in Arles (1888).”

Visitors who come to enjoy this fun exhibition will receive a booklet called “A Pokemon Adventure”, which “reviews the history of how the paintings made based on Van Gogh’s career have been influenced. When you complete it, you can redeem it in the same place for a special Pikachu x Van Gogh Museum promotion card,” only available in English and Dutch.

As expected, the on-site store will have special items for sale related to the event, with Van Gogh and with the characters from Pokemon, the franchise.

The manufacturer comes from launching its own Pokédex, the portable encyclopedia of Pokémon trainers, in the form of a Galaxy Z Flip3 inspired by the franchise. Now, Samsung brings this theme to its Galaxy Buds 2 in its online store in Korea.

The set includes the Galaxy Buds 2 earphones, a charging case in the shape of a ‘Poké Ball’ that opens when you press its button and the sticker of one of the available creatures: Pikachu, Bulbasur, Charmander, Squirtle, Jigglypuff, Ditto, Dragonite, Lapras, Eevee, Gengar or Mew, which is holographic.

The interior of the headphone case is offered in multiple colors: black, white, lavender, graphite, and olive. Said case can be decorated with the sticker that is given at random, as indicated by the South Korean.

It is unknown if this product will leave Korea, whose online store has sold out in less than 20 minutes, according to the Maeil Economic Daily, which highlights its limited edition nature. In any case, its price there is 134,000 won, the equivalent of about 100 euros at current exchange rates.

On February 27, Pokémon Day was celebrated, which this year commemorates the quarter century since the birth of the saga of pocket monsters created by the Japanese Game Freak for Nintendo consoles.

The idea of ​​the franchise was born as a role-playing video game (RPG), in which the player becomes a young trainer whose objective was to catch the 151 pokemon of the initial Pokedex, make his team stronger, defeat the eight gym leaders and beat the best trainers in the Pokémon League.

Part of the game also consisted of catching legendary pokemon, hidden in the great open world, facing and defeating the antagonists of Team Rocket and exchanging creatures with other players through the Game Link cable, from the Nintendo GameBoy, released in 1989 and which has already turned 30 years old.

In 25 years, Pokemon has sold more than 368 million units of video games in the world and the saga has transcended this sector and has starred in television series, comics and movies, among other media, until managing to integrate into popular culture to a large extent of the planet and beat more than one record.
