Venezuela signed a five-year memorandum of understanding with India to strengthen cooperation in the health sector and also facilitate the purchase of medicines, as announced in a statement this Tuesday by the Venezuelan Ministry of Health.

According to Venezuelan Minister of Health Nuramy Gutiérrez, the memorandum of understanding “will allow the signing of other agreements that facilitate the arrival of medicines and other health supplies from India, which are not only of very high quality, but have also been released from patents, therefore the international prices end up being very attractive.”

The official also highlighted that the exchange of technical information on drug regulation between the two nations is planned.

The document was signed by the Venezuelan Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission. In this regard, the Indian Ambassador to Venezuela, Ashkbarbabu Puluyadikumaran, emphasized that this initiative will give the government of Delcy Rodríguez “the possibility of accessing very high-quality medicines at very low cost, which will also strengthen the relationship between both nations in various areas of health.”

The American company Tesla plans to start the production of electric vehicles in its Europe in December, once it obtains the environmental impact permit. This was reported by the specialized publication Automobilwoche.

According to the information outlined, the Grunheide factory, which is located outside Berlin, has already produced the first five model Y cars that will be assembled in the company and they estimate to make about 1,000 units per week from January 2022.

As it will be recalled, Elon Musk, founder and CEO of Tesla, had reported that they planned to start work last July, but as a result of delays in the processing and approval of legal permits, the inauguration has been delayed.

Jörg Steinbach, Head of Economy for the Brandenburg Land regional government, where the factory is located, stressed that the main objective “was that the pending decision of the Brandenburg Environment Office would provide legal certainty to the entire procedure”. Discarding a veto to the project by the Environment Office, since “it is not a new nuclear power plant.”

The representatives of the car factory want to hire about 12 thousand employees. At the moment, there are already some 1.800 people working.

The departure of the United Kingdom from the European Union (EU), the so-called Brexit, is markedly hindering the jobs of German companies in the construction and maintenance sector in that country due to the procedures and visas now necessary.

“At present, companies and their employees cannot work on a UK construction site with legal certainty,” said Marie-Theres Sobik, a foreign trade expert at the Düsseldorf Chamber of Trades and Crafts.

The reason is the trade agreement reached between London and Brussels for Brexit. Since the UK left the EU single market and customs union on January 1st, the bureaucratic burden has increased considerably and expensive visas are also required.

“Simply applying for visas for multiple employees costs not only money, but also time,” Sobik said, noting that especially for smaller craft businesses it is not worth the effort.

The expert indicated that works such as remodeling and restoration work are affected, often for private clients, but also the construction of shops or the equipping of companies for commercial clients.

“These works cannot be carried out at the moment because the requirements of the agreement and the rules of entry in the United Kingdom do not allow foreign service providers to work on construction or assembly sites with their staff without a visa,” she explained.

No figures are available on the number of companies affected. Sobik noted, however, that for the vast majority of affected German companies it is not the main source of income, but rather an additional source of income.

There are some exceptions to the visa requirement, such as for industrial machinery manufacturers who have agreed to install or maintain them in the purchase contract. These companies can continue to send skilled workers to the UK without the need for a visa.
