According to the union member, “the damages recorded so far do not compromise the supply, production or distribution of goods.”

López explained that “only 6 % of the companies reported moderate damage and another 14% presented slight damage, mainly in some plants in the food sector and in industries located in the Yaracuy state.” Regarding companies in the states of Carabobo, Aragua, Lara and others in the central region, including Miranda, he stressed that they maintain their operations following the corresponding security protocols.

He added that “the regional chambers and the different sectors are working together with the affected companies to complete the repairs in the coming days.” The exception is a vegetable oil processor located in the Veroes municipality, Yaracuy state, which temporarily suspended operations due to the damage suffered.

López has ruled out shortages of goods and products in the national market, since production and distribution continue normally.

Conindustria proposed the application of fiscal measures to support the recovery of the affected areas, such as “reviewing exemptions from VAT, Income Tax and some import taxes, especially for essential inputs.” Also, they ask you to avoid nervous buying of medications.

“Experts believe that government action will not reverse the currency’s trend,” but intervention is not ruled out, as “the ‘greenback’ is appreciating 0.1 % and is currently trading at 162.17 yen.”

In this regard, Japan’s Finance Minister, Satsuki Katayama, indicated that the government is prepared to take action. Furthermore, Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara stated to the media that the Japanese government will work to build an economy less vulnerable to currency market volatility, while remaining prepared to intervene in the foreign exchange markets if necessary.

Analysts point out that intervention should not depend on a specific level but rather on the nature of the dollar-yen dynamic.

In any case, the overall outlook for the yen remains weak because “the wide differences in interest rates and real yields between Japan and the United States continue to favor carry trades, in which investors borrow in yen at low cost and invest in higher-yielding assets in other markets, putting downward pressure on the Japanese currency.”

In this regard, John Barrett, Chargé d’Affaires of the Donald Trump Administration, said at the time that the increase in oil exports “was the result of the three-phase plan of Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the President”; that is, stabilization, recovery, and transition.

Some of the strategic areas covered by the reforms include agriculture, investment, public and private enterprise, and energy.

According to Díaz-Canel, “the purpose of these reforms is to provide Cuba with the tools to face one of its most difficult moments, when it not only faces the economic embargo imposed by the United States since the 1960s but also increasing pressures that include restrictions on its fuel supply, sanctions on key sectors on the island, and a formal indictment against former President Raúl Castro.”

Among the changes Cubans can expect in the private sector are the creation of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), private banking entities, and currency exchange houses.

In addition, there will be openings to foreign investment, efforts to strengthen the capacity of state-owned enterprises to create wage models, and the facilitation of technology imports, among other measures.

Díaz-Canel indicated that Cuba is ready not only to resist the sanctions but also to produce, transform, and prosper.

According to the regulatory body’s report, “the largest increase in prices was recorded in the recreation and culture sector (7.3 %), followed by restaurants and hotels (7.1 %), clothing and footwear (7 %), household goods (6.8 %), education services (6.6 %), and communications (6.5 %).”

In early May, the president of the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV), Luis Pérez, “anticipated that 2026 would be marked by significant changes, which, he stated, would be felt by the end of the year and very likely in the following years, especially the next two, 2027 and 2028.”

At that time, Pérez predicted that starting in May, inflation would be in the single digits, considering the behavior of prices, which had shown a progressive reduction since the beginning of the year.

Meanwhile, some experts point to the rise in the value of the dollar as one of the main causes of the price increases in the country.

For the moment, it is known that the only African country excluded from the measure is Eswatini, “because it maintains formal diplomatic ties with Taiwan.”

In any case, the most notable aspect is that this Chinese policy “grants the largest African economies access to its market duty-free for the next two years,” starting last Friday, May 1st.

It is a duty-free agreement for their goods. According to the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council of the Asian country, the agreement will promote “the common development of China and Africa, facilitating the entry of products that previously faced tariffs of between 8 % and 30 %.”

In this regard, the first shipment was a 24-ton consignment of apples from South Africa that arrived via Shenzhen.

Governor Wilmer Rodríguez was present at the distribution of seeds to producers in the Paso del Libertador commune, in the El Amparo parish of the Páez municipality.

He indicated that in this first stage, the planting of 700 hectares is planned, with a subsequent increase to 5,000 hectares, to reach the state’s projected total of 20,000 hectares of cultivable land for this key crop in the country.

The goal is to transform Apure state into one of the entities “with the greatest projected growth as a new producer of this grain,” considering that the region’s main economic activity is livestock farming.
