This analysis is based on a publication made in June and in which a Mobile Ecosystem Market Study is carried out, whose conclusions indicate that both have an absolute domain of mobile ecosystems.

“They have an effective duopoly that allows them to exercise absolute dominance over operating systems, app stores, and web browsers on mobile devices,” this document reads.

To justify this claim, the agency also mentions that, in 2021, 97 % of mobile web browsing in the UK was done through the technology and engines used by Apple and Google.

That, taking into account that there are currently more than 800,000 users of cloud gaming services, would indicate that both manufacturers are “harming businesses, slowing down innovation and adding unnecessary costs”.

On the other hand, the CMA comments that “potentially disruptive innovations are being held back by the restrictions imposed by Apple” and stresses that the devices it manufactures, as well as its application store and that of Google, the search advertising services of this another and the prices applied “are above a competitive rate”.

The extension is available for Google Chrome and Brave browsers.

With the Exodus browser wallet, users will be able to buy, sell, and trade digital currencies, as well as issue, sell, and display NFTs. Investors also have the possibility to access the “different Web3 projects, bet Solana and see the history of their cryptocurrency savings, as well as being able to buy cryptocurrencies with debit, credit cards or bank account.”

The Exodus wallet is considered to be the first to provide access to more than 100 cryptocurrencies. Last December 2021, it enabled the Lightning network that allows operations with bitcoin and is currently emerging as a new competitor in the DeFi ecosystem market.

Exodus expansion plans

Exodus plans to expand in the decentralized finance (DeFi) market, and for this it plans to integrate with other protocols soon.

According to the information provided by Exodus, the high fees charged by the Ethereum network limited starting with said network, and they decided to launch with Solana. “The high fees of the Ethereum network make it difficult for new users to access this ecosystem, despite still being the most popular network in the DeFi ecosystem,” it pointed out in the statement.

Exodus plans to add Ethereum very soon. For them, browsing the Ethereum network is essential, but the “expensive fees can be restrictive for the average person looking to experiment with small sums of money.”

Solana has the ability to scale hundreds of thousands of trades per second at a fairly low value, users will have to issue thousands of trades to be able to pay a dollar in fees.

According to the developers of the different brands, the update of the next version of the browsers, which will be available in March for Google Chrome and Edge, while the one for Firefox will be released in May, could affect the income of some pages because “they are not ready to read three-digit user agent strings, similar to what happened when browsers reached two-digit versions more than a decade ago.”

The companies behind Google, Microsoft and Mozilla browsers are currently working hard solve the failures that millions of users may present with the new three-digit update.

Browsers work to fix bugs

The developers are designing various strategies, among which stands our the activation of a specific tag in the current versions of the browsers that allows a simulation of the next update in order to approve different websites and their reaction to the three-digit encoding.

The company that supports Mozilla plans to correct the faults once they appear when accessing the different websites. But, if they cannot solve it, they plan to use a strategy similar to that proposed by Google, which consists of freezing version 99 of the browser.

The reports generated so far indicate that the sites with the highest user traffic that experience compatibility difficulties are HBO Go, Bethesda and Yahoo. Therefore, the companies are asking users who want to help mitigate the “possible consequences to configure their browsers with the special tag and report any problems with their performance.”
