The Bluesky platform will launch Blue Verification for Notable User Accounts to strengthen account security and authenticity measures.

Similar to X, the social network’s moderators will review accounts on the platform to ensure they are genuine and approve them with Blue Verification.

This measure is in addition to the existing option since 2023 to self-verify accounts for individuals and organizations.

As is well known, verification is part of everyday life in various forms on other social media platforms, ranging from paid X-gaming (replacing the legacy verification process for notable and authentic accounts) to Instagram apps for accounts representing a “well-known and highly searched person, brand, or entity” that has been featured in multiple news sources.

The goal of all platforms is to provide greater security and trust to users and prevent impersonation or the posting of fraudulent content.

According to information revealed in the mockups published on GitHub, this would be the cost of the monetization plans, although they are not definitive.

The social network that seeks to compete from the beginning with X, and that currently has more than 24.7 million users, “is developing its subscription model after announcing a series A financing round of $15 million.”

According to TechCrunch, “Premium features, which we already announced were coming, could include significant improvements to the user experience,” such as “the ability to upload high-quality videos and advanced customization options for profiles, including custom colors and frames for avatars.”

It is speculated that the paid version of Bluesky could also include “additional features such as custom app icons, special badges for premium profiles, real-time translation of posts, detailed analysis of posts and folders to organize bookmarks.”

Jay Graber, CEO of the social network, has pointed out that another avenue for monetization that is being explored is the sale of domain names, as well as the launch of an algorithm marketplace and the inclusion of advertising on the platform.

Regarding parody or satire accounts and fan accounts, Bluesky has indicated that they must be clearly labeled, otherwise they could be deleted once the moderators apply the “impersonation” label to them.

Bluesky has launched a new feature of ‘feeds’ created with custom algorithms or “custom sources”, which allows users to subscribe to one of them to receive a specific type of posts or content thanks to the custom algorithm, in a similar way to the Twitter lists.

The social network founded by the former CEO and co-founder of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, continues to implement features based on the open and decentralized standard characteristic of the platform. In this case, with the implementation of ‘feeds’ that act in a similar way to Twitter lists, showing content on specific topics of interest to the user or only the publications of certain selected profiles.

In this sense, Bluesky has launched “custom sources”, a feature that is based on ‘feeds’ that show different content from the one that appears on the main page of the ‘app’ and that, unlike Twitter lists, use algorithms custom files configured by the user who creates them.

Specifically, as detailed by The Verge, who has had access to the Bluesky closed beta and has been able to explore this new function, this feature allows users to create and subscribe to different ‘feeds’. They show specific content on specific issues or specific profiles, for example, posts about music, photos of cats or posts from accounts of relevant personalities.

The ‘feeds’ or personalized sources are anchored at the top of the main page of the platform and, in this way, users can quickly choose between one ‘feed’ or another to see different topics. In addition, the user can choose ‘feeds’ already created to anchor in their main tab from a new menu ‘My sources’, located in the sidebar of the application.

In the ‘My sources’ menu, you can find default ‘feeds’ such as ‘What’s Hot’ for content that is trending at any given time; ‘Bluesky Team’ which, as its name suggests, collects publications from Bluesky team members; and ‘Popular with friends’, which is based on a combination of relevant content from the accounts that are followed by the user and content that the profile’s followers like.

Similarly, ‘My sources’ also has an option to discover new feeds created by other users that may be of interest. In this way, thanks to the personalized algorithm of the ‘feeds’, Bluesky allows users greater control of the content they want to see. At the moment, this feature is available in the latest closed beta version of the mobile apps and in the Bluesky web client.

The platform is in trial period for a selected group of users, accessed only by invitation. And there is a waiting list of more than a million potential customers.

In this regard, Forbes magazine and the Bloomberg News agency indicated on Tuesday they gave some details about how Bluesky is evolving, whose release date has not yet been revealed.

Dorsey has been working at Bluesky since 2019, when it was announced as “a project organized by Twitter to develop a decentralized protocol, under the premise of allowing users to have full control of their online identity, their account and their followers and to be able to transfer all of this to other platforms.”

According to Bloomberg, Dorsey’s project already has 245,000 downloads by iPhone users, with half of those downloads in April alone. Additionally, it has reported that the social network recently “launched a version of its application for Android, which according to media outlets that have seen it, is very similar in its presentation and operation to Twitter.”

The news about the creation of a team of specialists in crypto assets, blockchain, DApps and other decentralized technologies was released from the CEO of Twitter this Wednesday.

To lead the team, Twitter relies on the experience of Tess Rinearson, a member of the board of the Interchain Foundation. In her account on the social network, the expert said: “I am delighted to share that I have joined Twitter, to lead a new team focused on cryptocurrencies, blockchains and other decentralized technologies.”

Among the aspects that the Twitter Crypto team will focus are included the growing interest of creators in the world of cryptocurrencies, the commercialization of these assets, the use of decentralized applications to manage digital assets and currencies.

Rinearson stressed that as the investigations advance, they will seek to establish what cryptocurrencies can do for Twitter and what the social network can do for these assets.
