Electronic Arts (EA) announced the acquisition of the mobile video game development studio Glu Mobile for 2.1 billion dollars, which gives it a significant boost in the mobile games business, with titles such as Disney Sorcerer’s Arena or Kim Kardashian: Hollywood.

The objective of the purchase of Glu by Electronic Arts is to accelerate the growth of the mobile games business. “Mobile devices continue to grow as the world’s largest gaming platform, and with the addition of Glu games and talent, we doubled the size of our mobile business.”

Glu Mobile is known for its games as a service with titles such as ‘Disney Sorcerer’s Arena’, ‘Dinner Dash Adventures’, ‘Kim Kardashian: Hollywood’ or ‘Cooking Dash’. For its part, Electronic Arts has famous games like ‘FIFA’, ‘NBA’, ‘Battlefield’, ‘The Sims’ or ‘Plants against Zombies’.

With the acquisition of Glu for $ 2.1 billion in company value, Electronic Arts expands its mobile game offering with more than 15 titles that, combined, generated $ 1.32 billion in transactions in the last twelve months.

In addition, following the purchase of Glu, EA will add 500 mobile game developers to its team, and about 800 employees in total. According to Electronic Arts, the combination of both companies, with a broad portfolio of games and an expanding global audience, will deliver “more exciting experiences for gamers” from a rapidly growing platform.
