Commercial flights resume in the Caribbean

The restriction on commercial flights in the Caribbean imposed by the United States on Saturday, January 3, due to security measures, has been lifted, allowing U.S. airlines to resume their schedules in the region

The U.S. government announced the lifting of the restriction on commercial flights by U.S. airlines in Caribbean airspace, as announced Saturday night, January 3, by Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy.

It is important to remember that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) “had temporarily prohibited the transit of commercial aircraft in the region, citing security risks associated with ongoing military activity.”

Airlines were forced to modify schedules or suspend operations, resulting in delays, complaints, and inconvenience for travelers. “With the lifting of the measure, airlines will be able to resume their regular operations starting at midnight on Saturday, as confirmed by the Department of Transportation.”

Starting on the evening of Saturday, January 3, air traffic began to normalize, and it is expected that “commercial flights will gradually resume their regular schedules.”
